Are flexible shifts possible for the nursing workforce? As the demands of healthcare continue to evolve and increase, coupled with a strain in nursing manpower, the need for a work environment that promotes flexibility, efficiency and staff well-being remains pivotal for our nurses. Through focus group sessions, nurses have shared challenges they face during their shift, which include inflexible start and end times, inadequate break time due to workload, and leaving the workplace later than the intended end time. To address these concerns, we piloted a highly agile workforce model, coined the Liquid Nursing initiative which allows flexible scheduling and modularised roles for our full-time nurses. The initiatives have resulted in greater work-life balance, greater job satisfaction, and more streamlined processes for our nursing workforce. We plan to scale-up this initiative to all its 27 in-patient wards, benefitting about 2,500 nurses, by the end of the year. As I have been sharing a bit more content on LinkedIn I have come to the realization that there is some differences in how we all perceive the profession of nursing. Individual perceptions are not right or wrong, they just are. My own perceptions of the profession have evolved over time as I have taken a more active role in engaging. And lets face it, professional nursing organizations and institutions predominantly take a passive role in this topic; hoping individuals find their way to their website and find an obscure link or paper hidden behind a members only wall! But, as a profession, nurses must understand the difference between the job of nursing and the profession of nursing and neither stops or starts any particular point, but are both sides of the same coin...My latest blog takes a quick glance as to why we need more nurses engaged in the profession and not just have nursing be a job.https://lnkd.in/gYbGQKeV

NURSE RETENTION: THE KEY TO BETTER OUTCOMES FOR BOTH PATIENTS AND NURSESThis powerful statement highlights the crucial role that nurse retention plays in the quality patient care. When hospitals focus on retaining their skilled and experienced nurses, everyone benefits.A stable nursing workforce fosters a positive and supportive work environment, where collaboration and trust flourish. This, in turn, leads to improved patient care and outcomes, as nurses are better equipped to provide high-quality, consistent care. Moreover, by reducing turnover rates, hospitals can save significant amounts of money that would otherwise be spent on recruiting, hiring, and training new nurses. These cost savings can be redirected towards initiatives that further enhance patient care and support the nursing staff. It's time for healthcare organizations to recognize the immense value of their nursing workforce and prioritize retention strategies. By doing so, they can create a win-win situation for nurses, patients, and the organization as a whole.Click the link to claim your free educational buffet and start your journey to nursing excellence today - https://lnkd.in/gECPy2by#NurseRetention #NursesRock #NurseLife #NursesFeedTheirYoung #DareToDoNursingDifferently #NursingLeadership

Are you aware of the rationale behind the distinct uniforms for various nursing staff members? This differentiation enables hospital doctors, staff, and management to easily identify them, facilitating duty assignments based on specific nursing categories. However, this categorization can be obscure to patients' families, who may not be aware of the nurses' qualifications & experience. The same categorization applies to home care nurses, with varying rates accordingly. A challenge arises with critical care patients when families opt for caregivers, who are not authorized to perform certain nursing duties, leading to conflicts and confusion, potentially implicating the on-call doctor due to lack of oversight. Furthermore, caregivers are sometimes assigned duties at home with discounted rates while wearing the same nursing uniform, following negotiations with certain home care providers. Thanks
