Ghost in The Shell: Revenge Of The Cold Machines Vol. 2, by Junichi Fujisaku is a media tie-in novel containing three short stories set in the Ghost In The Shell anime universe. Set sometime around the first part second season or just before it. The refugee problem is in the background, just starting to boil, and the Laughing Man case is talked about in one of the stories. The first story is about an assassin being hired to take out a member of Section 9. The second story focuses on the interaction between a police officer and a Tachikoma told from the point of view of the tank AI itself. The third deals with military cyberbodies in the wrong hands. Yet as you read page after page you start to see the same names and realize all the stories are linked together. Like some episodes from the series these stories are not Stand Alone but part of a Complex single story. Each of these short stories was an enjoyable read with plenty of action and intrigue. My only gripe with this book was it’s very short length at only 200 pages it was a very short read, and left me wanting more. Overall, if your a fan of the TV show/ films or the sci-fi cyberpunk genre then you’ll definitely enjoy this book.

I enjoyed this book and will continue rewatching the series. The first story was very entertaining. The second and third story did seem to be part of a "bigger picture". I am a big fan of "the American Detective " novel and found that this was written in the same style.

This book was an absolutely phenomenal display of the chemistry between the characters at Section 9 as they delve into what it means to have a ghost while also following up on a story line dealing with the attempted assassination of Chief Aramaki and what is going on in the refugee camps.

This was a great side story! I loved how the three stories built on each other and I especially loved the focus on the Tachikoma. Great for fans of Ghost in the Shell that are looking to continue the story!

Revenge of the Cold Machines is the second in a series of light-novels based on the Ghost in the Shell: Stand Alone Complex anime series. There are three stories that connect an overarching mystery that Section 9 must solve. I really enjoyed it, as I enjoy all things Ghost in the Shell related. The characters voices carry nicely and all three stories are engaging. Much like the series and the manga the scientific explanations can get overwhelming if you are not used to techno heavy science fiction, though I learned how to follow the jargon fairly simply. The second story in the book is told from the point of view of an adorable Tachikoma think-tank. If you loved these guys in the anime series you're sure to find this chapter heartwarming and adorable. Overall if you are a Ghost in the Shell fan already you'll probably really enjoy this book. If you are not familiar with the anime series, the original managa, or the Ghost in the Shell movies you might want to check those out first before picking up the light novels.

This is a book of three shorter stories. I expected it to just wrap up each story and move on to the next one, however, it became clear after the second story that all three are certainly individual stories, but they all belong a greater plot arc that weaves like a thread through the fabric of each tale. Finally, it was very satisfying how the book concluded and things were tied up. It was a real surprise and treat. I couldn't say the same thing about another book in this same series. Still, I hope to read more by Junichi Fujisaku in the future. And, on a more emotional note, I really enjoyed the center story, which focused almost exclusively on the Tachikomas. I love those little guys. It was great to see them get their own chance to shine.

I loved it! Getting the Tachikoma's perspective is light, interesting, and uplifting. The two "fool" characters are not a new concept but they're still fun characters a briefly get some spotlight and I know that they make an appearance in the third book. I felt that breaking the plot into three parts made it a little confusing but I had gotten what was needed from the plot by the end. I found three errors in this book; errors seem to be common in light books, but the translation is much smoother (and flows better) than the first book. I would definitely recommend it if you're looking for something light and complicated T the same time - a feeling that only Ghost in the Shell seems to pull off so well. :]

The weakest of the trio of Stand Alone Complex novels. Shaky narrative and a weak plot. Compared to Volume 1 and Volume 3, it's hard to believe this is the same author. :/

A little better than the volume 1, if not a bit more disjointed.
